South Africa is a country that attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. The new online eVisa system introduced by the South African government allows travelers from all over the world to receive their visas electronically without having to visit a local embassy or consulate.
Depending on a traveler’s specific needs for visiting South Africa, they may be required to obtain a certain type of visa to do so. Therefore, it is worthwhile to go through the list of different visas offered by the South African government to determine which suits the traveler’s needs better.
Can Indian Citizens Get an eVisa for South Africa?
Indian citizens planning to travel to South Africa will need to obtain an e-Visa to South Africa before making any travel arrangements. Travelers can apply for the eVisa online through a quick and simple process that only takes a few minutes to complete. Once the eVisa is granted, it is sent to the applicant’s email address.
South Africa eVisa Application for Indian Citizens
The online eVisa application system is primarily for travelers intending to visit South Africa for tourism or business purposes. India is one of the 100 countries whose citizens are required to obtain a visa for South Africa.
Please note that if traveling with a minor, under the age of 18, the parents of the child will have to present a birth certificate that lists their details as parents of the child. If a child is traveling with only one parent, the other parent’s consent will be required in the form of an affidavit.
Documents Required to Obtain the South Africa Visa for Indian Citizens
The South African government has set some minimum requirements for travelers to apply for an eVisa. Travelers are required to have a passport that is valid for at least 30 days from the day of their departure from South Africa and it must also have two blank pages left for entry stamps.
If the traveler’s passport does not meet these minimum requirements, it is advisable that he/she consider getting their passport renewed before they begin the eVisa application process.
Apply for the South Africa Online Visa from India
In order to apply for an eVisa, the traveler needs to visit the South Africa Online Visa platform where the traveler is asked to enter some personal details and passport information. It is required of each traveler to be as accurate as possible when providing this information as any discrepancy between the information on the form and the passport will render the visa invalid at the South African port of entry.
Travelers are also advised to travel on the same passport they used to fill out the application form.
Travelers will also be asked to provide a valid email address and credit/debit card information. The credit/debit card will be charged for a processing fee for the eVisa application. Once the traveler submits the application, they can expect to hear back on the status of their application within 3 business days. It may take longer if there is additional processing required on the eVisa application.
Requirements of a South Africa eVisa from India
Once the eVisa application has been approved, the traveler will receive the eVisa in the email account they provided with the application. The traveler will need to save a copy of the eVisa on their phone/mobile device and take a printed copy with them to the airport when they travel. The traveler will need to present the eVisa along with their passport at the South African airport to be allowed into the country.
Once the traveler is allowed into South Africa, they will be able to stay in the country for up to 60 days. Departure from the country should be planned some days before the eVisa expires in order to stay clear of any issues with over-staying a visa.
Over-staying a South African visa can render a traveler an “undesirable” which will subsequently ban them from entry into the South African Republic for a period of 5 years.
